Does a kinky party always have to sound like techno? That’s something we at the Deviance team have been wondering for a while. And when a notification about a new event called “Bedrooms” in Cologne landed in my inbox in March, I was instantly intrigued. And as you might already know from our “stress tests“, we love to test things out for you firsthand. So this time, it’s a special edition. A Härtetest out of home, so to speak.
The concept – a small club, a selective crowd, combined with Hip Hop, R’n’B and Afrobeats – sounded unusual at first, but appealing. My partner was immediately on board too, so we decided to apply. Yes, you read that right. You actually have to apply to get in.
Apply first, party later
Admittedly, it felt a little strange at first to have to “apply” for a party, but it ultimately made sense. This way, the organizers make sure that only guests with the right mindset are in attendance. A few days after applying, we received access to the ticket shop and the anticipation grew.
When the day of the party finally arrived in early April, we were visibly nervous. Questions like “What should we expect?”, “Are our outfits appropriate?” or “Have we understood all the rules?” were running through our heads. At the door, we were greeted by two well-dressed men in kinky outfits. One of the outfits would have been way too cold for the temperatures that night, but it looked amazing! The entry process was friendly and professional. The coat check was a little chaotic, probably due to the club’s spatial limitations, but within a few minutes we were through. After changing, we headed down the stairs into the club.
The venue was pleasantly small, nicely packed, and people were already dancing freely. Beautiful people in stunning outfits everywhere. The mindset – wear what you love, no one judges – meant you felt comfortable in your outfit right away.
The bar staff were incredibly quick and warm despite the rush. After our first drink, we were drawn to the dance floor. The music was exactly our thing! We quickly got talking to other lovely guests. My worry about being constantly stared at turned out to be completely unfounded. If anything, I had to stop myself from constantly staring at everyone else’s fascinating outfits.

Later that evening, we went to explore the lower level of the venue. The organizer had mentioned beforehand that there wouldn’t be a classic play area. Instead, the lower level featured a lounge area with sofas for relaxing or retreating for – ahem – some intimate fun. Whether guests had just met or arrived together didn’t matter; the atmosphere down there was full of energy and joy. Some of the sights, whether you were actively involved or simply taking it all in, were very alluring.
After hours of dancing, great conversations and with plenty of new experiences in our kinky luggage, we made our way home. At the exit, we ran into the organizer, who asked for our thoughts. He told us that the party with this particular music selection had been planned as an experiment. But since it was sold out already two weeks in advance, he’s already planning the next Bedrooms, this time in a larger venue with a bigger dance floor and proper play areas.
